Well, Sunday the hard drive in my main computer failed. Not to go into specifics but I'm sending the drive back to segate and hopefully they will be able to fix it.

This could keep me down as long as 2 weeks.

Please don't say its a 7200.11

Yes,

If you have a 500MB, 750MB, 1TB or 1.5TB Segate drive you better start checking serial and model number, cause there is a bug in the firmware that will brick the drive.

Segate claims they have fixed the drive and that all the data is in tact. They expect to have the drive in my hands by Friday. So.. WOO HOO!!

Assuming I get the drive back and it all works I'll be making my official return to Eve on Saturday evening. [:Pirate:]

Yeah, I'm about as happy as can be considering the situation.

The service is only good right now because of the months of horrible press they got during the 7200.11 fiasco, which they initially refused to help with, then offered help via their self owned data retrieval company, then finally being forced to help as well as the above.

Unfortunately Seagate has gone downhill since the Maxtor purchase, WD black / green are the only drives i'll touch now (and this is speaking from experience of 3 320gb seagates dying within a year :\ )

To counter that I've had 3 or 4 WD drive fail on me too.

Drives fail occasionally. I stopped buying WD drives a few years ago after loosing 50GB of important shit on a stripe set when one of the drives failed to spin up.

So, I guess the story here is all drive companies have drives that fail. At least this was just a bug that was finally resolved, unlike the one i had that never spun up again.
